The poet says “It is the blood on the flag that makes the flags. If anyone died for the soil it is the homeland.”

Flags have meaning but I wouldn’t call them sacred necessarily. A flag is a symbol of a nation and the values that nation represents. Many people are critical of their own country and disenchanted with the direction it’s headed in, so I assume that has an effect on how they feel about their flag.
Exactly! But people are critical of the government, not their country. I also criticize because I’m an opponent. But the government cannot reduce my respect for the flag.
(Decades ago) when I was in Communications and Visual Design at college, one assignment in Visual Representation was to "design a flag for the United States". Most of us were busting our butt to try to come up with a NEW flag that had ANY kind of significance whatsoever.
The best project by far (and it was NOT mine) was the one individual who posited that the flag is really an example of PERFECT symbolism, a symbolism that could NOT be improved upon. What needed to be done was simply to return to HONORING the perfect symbolism that ALREADY EXISTS! Not a change in flags, but a change in thinking.
Is very important, it's an inage of a mutual goal of milion people whit the same hope and dreams, pain and happines.
Is one of the things that bring us togeder in solidarity and friendship no mather who we are as long we belong to the same flag.

Of no real importance. It doesn't represent me. It doesn't represent my culture. It doesn't represent my values. It doesn't represent my religion.
I'd have to be pretty pathetic to put any significant value to a piece of cotton. My place of birth is on my birth certificate. My passport. Both have more value as they can get me across borders, into other countries. If I turned up at a border with a flag the guards would think me insane.

Flags are useless and breed problems - just look at America. The idiots barely know their fathers, or name two European countries and their capitals; but practically worship their flag like it's their provider and informer.
Yes, yes, I get the history and sacrifice that goes into making a country. I'm Scottish, we practically made the modern world possible. But it's the level of cultism that goes into modern flag worship which goes beyond the pale. It's like you're trying too hard, in case someone calls you out for being "unpatriotic".
Bitches, I pay tax and work within the laws, and do a lot more besides. The flag wants people like me behind it, not jingoists you.
Aww did America touch your tiny pee-pee? You never miss an opportunity to shit on us do you ya smug cunt?
A symbol of division.
A tiny planet and yet so many flags and countries and humans who decide who to love or to hate based on the drawing they have mounted on a stick.
I don't wanna sound corny and say I want world piece but when I look at flags, any flag all I see is an elaborate way to control
Oh no it has nothing to do with hate. I’m also aware that the flag is a symbol, but the part that interests me is the meaning of that flag.
Yeah but the flag is not responsible for all this:)
The US Flag is a symbol for the US Constitution. I love the Constitution, not a piece of cloth. I'm happy that the Constitution protects political speech like flag burning. I have no patience for people who scream about "respecting the flag" while longing to curtail the rights of others.
No it isn't
I don't care either, not a fan of hierarchies, or being a follower, or having a head of state or country speak for me or boss me around, or nationalism as a whole tbh.
You know how many species can't migrate where they need to because of walled borders? Or guess how many women I found perfect in every way for dating but were outside my country... it's a lot. and the wars, fuck the wars. fuck patriotism, fuck drafts and "fighting for your country". It's all bullshit.
What do the things you mention have to do with the flag? Of course war is a bad thing, but to be realistic, there have been wars throughout history. For me, the flag symbolizes those who have died, so I respect it. Also, it's not a bad thing, as long as nationalism is in its decision.
Here a national flag is just a symbol that you sided with the views of your politicians, the laws pf your country, how it's ran, etc. It isn't a memorial symbol, we use stone slabs or walls with the dead people's names on them for that.
I prefer to think for myself and value individuals,
of*
So yeah the things I mentioned have EVERYTHING to do with our flag.
Oh no, that's not what the flag means to me. To hell with the state, politicians etc. I respect your opinion, but I think this feeling differs from country to country. For example, the red background of our flag represents the blood of our martyrs. I only respect that.
I honor the American Flag it symbolizes our country and soil , I don’t honor it for the Government , I honor it for the soldiers that sacrificed their lives to keep us at peace
I see a flag similar to a 'license plate' - it indicates where one is registered.
I feel solidarity with a selected group of people; many others (if not most) around me are not significant in my life.
This way it makes MORE sense to honour 'my football club's' flag over the one of the national organization I was -accidentally- born into.
This seems to only be an obsession in America. I personally don't get it. It's just a peace of fabric. Why do you have to give it special treatment and why can't you fly another flag above it. Like there are so many flag etiquette rules in the US, it's ridiculous
All countries have killed innocent people in the name of there flag. Patriotism is a fools game that kills innocents. Therefor no i don't find my flag important if anything dislike it.
Dont really care. Its a symbol, nothing more. It was never the flag that was important.
My country's flag is just a symbol, and it stands for a whole lot of fucked up shit as well as good. But it's nothing more than that, to me.
They are silly. I wish people cared more about the constitution.
I have an American flag on display in the front of my house. It is illuminated at night.
I stand by my flag. 😎
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ovGisSJOvqcThe flag to me is very important, I have fought to protect it and if you desecrate one in front of me you will get your ass beat. Although I may not like the politicians, the flag means FREEDOM. 🇺🇸
Thank you for your service! It saddens me to be one of only a couple of people standing when a flag passes in review- in a Fourth of July parade, no less!
@Massageman That's all fine, I will stand to show my respect for the Constitution. However, if asked to stand "for God and country", as I was at a professional basketball game, I'm staying in my seat. Another great freedom the Constitutions grants is freedom of religion.
Somewhat. I mean I don’t dislike my country or anything but there isn’t much pride to be felt with the state it is currently in.
The problem with Humans is that they are tribal! Imagine what the World would be like if there were NO tribes (NO countries, NO races, NO religions) !
The flags of the various nations have useful characteristics, but I don't personally hold any extreme importance in them. The CROSS has infinite more importance
I'm from Scotland and for a country that voted 98% for a political party who's clear intentions are to vote for another referendum for independence.. we sure do fly the union Jack about a lot 😅
Leftists wouldn't know irony if a giant E was branded on their foreheads
Yes flags have meaning but they have nothing to do with me and my life. It doesn't affect me physically as well. Realistically and objectively, they're just reduced as indicators.
Fuck the flag. Fuck the King's Guard. Fuck the city. Fuck the king.
