+1 ySo ideally, you'd need to have both. The better question would be is which one do you need to have, and for me that's the personality. Because I don't just wanna look at a pretty face all day. I need someone with substance. Someone that has vibes and energy that mesh well with my vines and energy. Someone that I can hold a conversation with. Someone that has a sense of humor that understand my sense of humor. Looks only gets you to the door. Your personality is what gets you the invite inside and closes the door behind you.

It's been scientifically proven that men are more visual creatures, we have to be because we work in the same way bees pollinate a flower... A flower jus sits there looking all pretty with it's nice petals... To attract the bee over to wanna pollinate it... Girls are the flowers men are the bees... So I think a lot of men here are lying to be "politically correct" or "nice people"
Me, I don't give a shit bout whether I'm liked or not.. IL be honest I don't give a crap about girls personality jus want their body... That's jus how I am00 Reply
Honestly, I find that the two go together more often than not.
The most attractive girls I've met have all been lovely, and often very intelligent too. The stereotypical dumb, bitchy cheerleader seen in every high school movie, just isn't a thing. On the other hand...
I mean, *maybe* she has a great personality, but I kind of doubt it... 00 Reply

There are some men that will challenge you mentally and spark interest over the phone. But when they lean in for a kiss it suddenly feels uncomfortable and rather unwelcomed.
Unfortunately if we were blind we'd stand a better chance at dating.
Since personality, smell and the taste of their saliva would probably be more powerful.
I won't lie and say I'm not a Sucker for a pretty face.
It's my weakness and my greatest downfall.112 Reply
Asker+1 yYou like abs etc on a guy?
- +1 y
I want a guy that is as fit as me. If he so happens to have abs that's great but I'd hate to date a guy that solely thinks about how he looks. Thats not what I mean when I say I was a good looking fit guy.
I'm 30 and my body has started to develop the "womanly" look that's the process of growing up, I expect that in my guy. If we're active at work, social life, lifestyle, healthy there's no reason for us to be physically obese.
He needs to be conscientious as much about what he eats as well as his physical appearance you know. But not obsessive.
Does that make sense?
Asker+1 yOh cool, do you workout?
- +1 y
In recent times I'm not as active as I have been. I suffered an injury and sciatica that lead to my depression, plus grieving just been overwhelming.
In the 3 months, I've slowly started to work sugar to a minimum in my diet and I'm eating more frequently but smaller portions and it's really helped to shift the stress weight I gained.
I've dropped from a 12/14 to a steady 10/12.
Prior to all this I ran 5k 1 a week, walked 3 miles to and from work every day, swam 3x a week. And did meditation every morning and bikram yoga every Sunday.
So as you can imagine I was very very fit. But with most things if the mind loses focus and direction everything else falls out of place.
I'm not a health freak and I believe the body knows what it needs and clearly I've needed rest. The racing anxious thoughts were the worst because I was fighting the inevitable - to stop!
Asker+1 yThats amazing, did you have abs?

Umm not really my body doesn't really build muscle like that... Maybe if I used weights I would have had abs. But my stomach was pretty tight

I have seen many people who are terrible even though they have good looks. But very few good looking people were kind. In fact ugly were also ugly inside and few were good. I thought that personality reflects on looks but hey it is all genes so I don't trust good looks. For me at first comes behavior and habits. If someone have control over their mind and can change their bad habits then it says that they are trustable but those who are the slaves of their mind aren't good people from what I know. And I ain't just faking the importance of "personality" but for me good people look good by themselves so from one side I depend on looks too. If I want a long lasting friendship then personality comes first and looks aren't in my list.

I'm impressed. You've grasped very quickly what many never learn in a lifetime. Ability over ones minds and bad habits is a supreme quality found in very few individuals - they are distinctly wise and productive, so they'll be almost impossible to miss. Hope you find them 👍 - +1 y
@Concordio Thank you
+1 yIn most cases its "looks draw me in but personality is what keeps me" but honestly? I met my husband online and when we met irl neither of us knew what the other looked like; but since I saw him for the first time I've thought he was the most attractive person in the world. (Not that he believes me -- I'm bi leaning women preference so he thinks I still find women more attractive but this mf doesn't understand I still like him more and that is like the HIGHEST honour... 😭) infatuation does weird things to your heart and whatever.

@Paul09 id seen a 200x200px black and white video of him eating a wafer cookie back in 2013 on his public profile from the site we met on. I have aphantasia and can't visualize though, so even with the guess at what he mightve looked like I was very wrong. We never went into it looking to date or be together in any capacity though, so it wasn't an important factor, and by the time we were together we'd been mutually pining in our own corners so long it didn't really matter lol.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yNobody is going to be completely satisfied with all of one and not the some of the other. Fit men are highly unlikely to fall in love with obese women no matter how awesome their personality is. Men will also will also take only show much abuse from a very attractive yet extremely bitchy woman.
Also women will struggle with dating a 5ft bald chubby guy no matter how funny and smart he is. They will give very good looking guys an initial chance but if he has a personality like a turnip he’s unlikely to get past 3 dates.
I admit I was one of those good looking yet boring/weird guys when I was younger. I almost never had girls turn me down if I asked for their number. Even if they had bfs they still would more often then not hand out their digits.
I also had a 95% chance of getting a date but I didn’t have game and often screwed it up. Then in my late 20s and early 30s I learned a few tricks and I got action left and right.10 Reply
+1 yLOOKS FUR SURE, but I mean, a body without a soul, is a crystal cup without water to a thirsty soul. it depends on the type of person and the type of soul. sometimes the person is so beautiful inside, that no matter what they look on the outside they will always shine to me

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yPreferences mean nothing because at the end of the day we end up falling for someone who is completely the opposite sometimes lol. Personality is reasonable because you need to be compatible enough for a balance relationship. Looks are just vanity, they come and they go ALWAYS. Body is also vanity, a physically attractive body comes and goes within time. You can be 60 years of age whether you’re a male or a woman you’re going to have saggy tits and skin everywhere regardless. So personality is preferable.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI am unfortunately only attracted to tall average looking white/middleeastern/Asian men. I can't control. I tried dating a guy who did not attract me but he left me since he noticed it somehow. But the personality is still very important. I reject tall men with terrible personality for example and their personality ruin their looks in my opinion
So personality and looks to an extent are both important except you are ok with someone who dates you for your personality but is not attracted to your looks.14 Reply

The face is the first thing you see before getting to know someone. So I would argue that looks are what hooks a person into becoming interested at first. However once you become more involved with a good looking person they start to show they're true colors, and if they have a bad personality then the relationship won't last.
10 Reply976 opinions shared on Dating topic. It would be better to be a middling mix of both than being all and nothing with either.
I voted personality however, because while looks carry initial interest, longevity in the relationship just simply isn't there if they're stupid, annoying, b*tchy, etc.00 Reply- 3.5K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yPrefer for what?
If I'm only looking for sex (one-night stand, friends with benefits), looks and body.
If I'm looking for a relationship, personality first, looks and body second.
by the way, I'm not looking for sex... my SO has plenty of looks and personality for me.00 Reply
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yI tend to find neither matter for me, my interest happens completely by random…haven’t noticed any trends. But in the scenario of choosing one I’d choose looks. Sole reason being I get along with everyone. I think I’d be able to match myself with any person. So having that perk of them being good looking is just a bonus I guess.

+1 yWell it has to be a balance of the two. If she has a cute face and hot body but awful personality to me, it will be very short or not even approach. But if she is not that great looking but has a good personality it'll not work if I'm not physically attracted to her.
00 Reply 468 opinions shared on Dating topic. All of them are important to me. Why do I have to choose one over another?
50 ReplyI think personality is better, because how do you know someone with good looks may have a kind heart, they can be mean or heartless so no one has to be good looking to be kind, they're looks doesn't matter but what inside they're heart matters.
10 ReplyPhysical attraction gets your foot in the door. What comes next are can I trust this person? Is she being honest with me? Does she have intellectual curiosity? Is she altruistic or Machiavellian or a little bit of both? Then comes body chemistry. Smell, taste, tactile feel.
I am of Irish and Spanish ancestry and I definitely like the physical beauty of Mediterranean women. Dark hair, brown eyes, dark skin.00 ReplyI prefer both good personality and good looks, please , can have one without the other…
But if it was life and death , I would rather have a bad beautiful as fuck bitch than Gollum’s good personality girl.
Yes internet I know Gollum is a dude , just imagine him as a Gollumsy the girl00 ReplyLooks are for a fling if your looking for something serious you gotta go for personality because the person that is most beautiful on the outside could still be a disgusting ugly person... I know I been their.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yPersonality is a lie, hot guys with zero can get countless women, women date for personality only after 30. Same for men too. In the dating market attractiveness is the only key. People will put up with bad if attractive but not with ugly and bad or ugly and good.
