How do I deal with a friend who keeps lying just to compete?

This friend of mine keeps making up stories about guys hitting on her and some other fake encounters just to “match” my lifestyle. She doesn’t get as much attention because she is overweight. I have tried to help her out with her diet but she won’t listen. She wants a guy who can accept her body but we live in a continent where being fat is seen as ugly. She is 40 now and still struggling to get a date. Do you know anyone like this?

If you have tried helping her and she is not willing to make an effort then let her be.

If she is really okay with her body as she claimed to be then that's up to her. If she really wants to date she should make an effort to search. She can be whoever she wants cause all kinds of people are out there. Some guys do like chubby ones, some even prefer someone with a child, there are all kinds of preferences.

BUT, if she is lying just to match you then she needs some wake up call. I mean she is only embarrassing herself.

Personally I think it's okay to say that "I am single", "I have not dated anyone, yet", "I probably will die alone", "I'm not pretty", "I am sad", "Will someone like someone like me?" to my "friend" because I trust them and I can lean on them.

Do you think she knows that I know she’s lying? Another friend of us is making fun of her without she’s knowing it (behind her back) As much as how I feel bad for her, it annoys me at the same time when she comes up with some “latest” lies.

She is 40 so she probably have sense some things but it still needs to be confirm from her. or Either she really is too gullible to her surroundings or too trusting of her friends that she does not suspect a thing. In my opinion it is better to have some heart to heart talk. As they say "Communication is the key"
