Why does someone make a date only to stand someone up?

Some people are flighty. I haven’t really been stood up for a real date (maybe once or twice) but there’s been plenty of business meetings where some people didn’t bother to call or show up. Even when I’d confirm the meeting beforehand.


Had a few “friends” do this, too. So I quickly learned to never go out of my way to plan something that would inconvenience me (even slightly) to see them. It was always secretly “I have an hour to kill before my meeting, so we’ll meet up at the coffee place (a block from my already scheduled meeting). Then, when they were late and never called, I wouldn’t be out much. I would also bring stuff to do. I that way, I wouldn’t be angry that I “fell for it” and I’d have time to relax or prepare some more.




Now, if it happened with dating, and they never called to apologize (no emergencies or anything) then, like with business, I wouldn’t want to keep seeing them. No anger, but I would probably write ‘em off.

That's a varied as there are people. Could be as simple as a scheduling conflict. Or on the the other side of things it could be she had no intention of keeping her commitment. Unfortunately in today's society takes out of sight out of mind attitude when it comes to their treatment of others.
Personally I'd just move on. Whatever the reason it's her hang up not yours. 🙂

Different reasons for different individuals. Some feel like they’re being mean by saying no, others may want to go initially but then when the time comes they don’t feel like it. Regardless, I wouldn’t take it too personally. Anyone who stands me up once clearly isn’t worth my time and they will only get one opportunity to be that disrespectful rather than cancelling the plans instead.

This is actually my first time and I'm damn near fifty so I suppose i can't be too upset

I’m sure it’s still annoying lol, but I’d opt not to be too upset. Anyone who can just blow off a person without so much as a word or an effort to reschedule probably would’ve been just as disappointing in the future.
