The problem is that you're dating out of a flexible choice. A psychologist I knew said that one of the best ways to find a good match (when dating) is to make a list of 10 things you're looking in a partner. Not exactly as first impression. Is about writing down qualities that you're seeking for and should align with your values and life goal.

Once you have the list memorised and start dating, you should check by yourself if that person match at least 6-10 qualities you listed. If it doesn't appear so, you'll most likely have important differences that will make things difficult for both.
