u People who want to make a relationship work don't take a break; they stay and work on the relationship, because you can't fix a relationship when you're apart. "Taking a break" means I wanna break up and go fuck somebody else, but I don't wanna have that break up talk and all the drama, so let's just pretend we're taking "a break," we'll just drift apart, and you'll figure it out eventually.
In the meanwhile, if you don't want to be monogamous with your current girlfriend/soon-to-be ex, just take the bull by the horns, tell her that you're breaking up, then go fuck Angela until her eyes pop out!
To me it's not cheating for a man or woman. Because "I need a break" comes of as soft language for breaking up with you. It does not matter who said it or how they did. Because they are already checked out of the relationship and too scared to admit it. People need to put their adult pants on, break up and go their separate ways. Being a adult and honest about it does save people a lot of drama and allows both parties to start working through the break up quicker. Rather then leaving one if not both of them hoping what is broke can be fixed.
It always makes me laugh when people focus on technicalities to try and cover themselves in situations like this. What should really matter is whether or not you are still romantically involved with this person, and if you are, then yes it's wrong to sleep with someone else.
If you want to have sex with 'Angela', then you need to tell your girlfriend that you are over for good. Don't expect to be able to have your cake and eat it, you need to be sure that you don't want to be with her anymore, because once you do it you won't be able to just go back to how things were before.
This is some high school/ college technicality shit lol. This doesn't fly in your mid-twenties and older.
Just tell your (ex) girlfriend that you have no interest in saving the relationship and then hook up with Angela to finalize your point. This 'what can I get away with' question, is so minimum effort energy.
If you actually want to save the relationship, you should be on your knees groveling to anyone who will listen, buying her favorite foods, sending her sweet texts, standing outside her house in the rain blasting a boombox. Girls still want romance.

Whether it's cheating or not. The real question is if you really care about your girlfriend and want to get back together, why are you contemplating fucking someone else? And if you do, and get back together, will you tell her? Or be okay if she also fucked someone else while you all were on break?
But to be honest, any relationship that needs a break, is already pretty much over, so why not just officially end it before having sex with other people, instead of after?

You know i considered asking one of my exes “to take a break” years ago considering the tough times i was going through. I was dragging her through it and she ended up breaking up with me instead. It was permanent.
In retrospect I wished I would of asked to take a break. It might of not worked out anyway but it would of given more time for thinking/closure vs. her abrupt and very nasty way of ending things.

Although breaks are technically breakups, i dont consider them the same unless we legit call it a breakup. So yes its cheating if you get with someone while on a “mental” break. People confuse mental and physical breaks. Sure we can give eachother physical space but the point of the break is to take time to yourself to think on if we should stay a thing or not. For future use, i wouldn't dare do a break. Either we’re together and talking it over/working it out OR we’re broken up FOR GOOD. No backsies

@TheSpaceGnome i wouldn't say that specifically. I’ve asked for a break once and one guy asked me for a break once. The guy i asked for a break was a workaholic and i was fed up. I hated to let him go but i also wanted to be free of the neglect. He came back less than a week later saying the few days we’d gone was too long and that he was ready to balance work and personal life better. It ended up being utter bullshit but we really thought we loved eachother lmao. That whole relationship was neglect 🤣 I stopped giving chances to workaholics after him. One guy long before him asked me for a break. His reasoning was because i was “too on all the time” and “too much”. Basically i was too energetic for the mf. I wanted things that was for sure i wanted and i knew when i wanted them. He was more indecisive and unorganized and lazy. His break was really him wanting to breakup without actually saying so. I felt stupid even hanging on and turning down the offers that i did. But i loved him more than he clearly loved me so i stuck around an extra 3 months. Problem was, i mever gave him the space he asked for. He wanted total isolation and i felt that is a good way to loose someone so i still would text him weekly asking if he's thought things over. But in reality who knows wtf he did during thag downtime. Im 99% sure it was video game all

Yes, of course it's cheating, but it sounds like it wasn't a relationship, what you had was a sexationship. If you already want to do something with someone else then you weren't 'all that into her' or even Angela for that matter, bc you're willing to be with her physically and then go back to someone else. All 3 of you deserve better but are relatively unaware of it. Call her and break it off if you're that eager to be with someone else and let Angela know you are only interested in her body but not in actually caring about her. My best advice: wait until marriage. Rebound sexationships always end in misery. Respect your body and heart and theirs enough to wait for the right person (who you would NEVER consider 'cheating on' if there are problems).
It's cheating if you lie - "break" is a vague term - if you don't clearly define parameters by which "cheating" is defined, leaving it open to broad interpretation, that's on you.
Personally, I'd tell your girlfriend, "until you decide, we're over [and if Angela's comfortable with your making it public], Angela wants to have sex with me, so if you can't make up your mind, that's on you."
Imagine some bad boy, your girlfriend, in a different circumstance, has broken up with him, but is begging for him back, while you're waiting for her to "decide", I doubt your response would be the same (allowing her to waste your time in "maybe" land).

@DizzyDesii If my girlfriend ever wanted a break, she doesn't, and a friend of mine wanted to date me (I don't sleep with people until we've been official for months), I won't say no. The break is a breakup. It may be short, but for that brief time period, I am single.

I don't agree, I think wanting a break itself is a sign 2 people don't get along enough to be together, and that a break and a break up are not the same, so it is cheating, but one is a sign that the other is needed, so it doesn't matter.
Technically your single for a week. So having sex with Angela wouldn't be cheating since you don't have a girlfriend for a week. And even if so your girlfriend still might not want to get back with you after she made up her mind in a week. Do what you feel is right.
There are no such thing as "breaks" when in relationships. That's just a cheap way of saying "I wanna see other people and I want you to accept it." If they want a break, they're breaking up with you. They just don't want to hurt you by saying they want to break up. Because when they say they want a break from you you'll expect them to come back at some point. They won't. Just move on when they bring up the idea of a "break."
I would say talk it over with your girlfriend if you still care for her. I know that many relationships have been strengthened by individuals having sex with other people outside the primary relationship. Cheating involves lying. If it's consensual, then it's not cheating.
