Why is he giving me more attention now that he is dating her?

There is this guy that I've had sex with in the past. We are very close and there have been times I thought for sure he loved me. We can't be together as I am married (open relationship). Anyway recently he started dating someone. He says he is with her because he is lonely, but he is gonna give it a try. Since he has started trying with her he has been more attentive to me. Texting me more, asking to hang out, text goodnight almost nightly. I am just confused, is he just trying to make sure we don't lose our bond or is there something else?

Just my opinion but I think this guy might actually be in love with you and he is trying to make you jealous bye dating this other girl hoping that you will break it all off with your husband or whoever and you to will be together. I also think either this guy is truly in love with you, or he has a major crush that he can't get over and he is doing everything he can to win you over. This guy sounds like he is in a fragile state to me so please be kind to him and I am not in any way saying that you wouldn't be, but I think he is in a very fragile state of mind. be safe and keep the faith and I also hope it all works out for everyone involved...
