What do you think of Dating apps?

Do you like/hate them? Why do you feel that way?

In concept, they are brilliant. Many people are too busy or simply not interested in stereotypical social settings, and they provide an alternative that works to a degree even when not actively using the app.

In execution however, pretty much all of them no matter how niche or exclusive they try to be are essentially turning relationships into a catalogue for hookups, which in turn devalues relationships as a whole. About 80-90% of female profiles offer either no information to even get started with, or the same cookie-cutter bio that everyone else has along with some pretty unflattering, often badly edited or filtered pictures. A lot of the time, they're doing it solely for attention or to get people to follow them on other media. On the other hand, a large percentage of male profiles aren't really active because the owners have given up in frustration, and there are (apparently, but not surprisingly) a lot of guys who are only interested in hookups. So in other words, the people using them for serious relationships are either wasting their time, or must have the patience of a saint for them to work out.

I have always had good success using online dating sites. Of course, some of them are not as good as others, and some have more scammers, but almost every date I have had in the last 15 years started with an online meeting, and I have probably had 100 first dates in that time period.

I don’t really like them, but it’s ironic of me to say that. I think that most people are on there for validation, ego boosts, causal dating (nothing serious), and hookups


I used them just to try them out, just to see what all the hype was about. I hated them, it just attracted very low quality people. However, after days of swiping left and being very selective (because I didn’t want hookups), I found my boyfriend. It seemed like he was the only guy on there in my area who actually wanted something serious. So here we are today.

I think it’s dangerous cause you could get hurt or killed or you could hurt others, by disappointing them, or harming their mood, but it’s tempting cause it gives you the illusion the whole world is available at your finger tips. I know guys who dated over 200 people on dating sites before turning 24 and my friend spent 14 years on them before finding his wife and she was just an ordinary woman, slightly above average in appearance and a little rich, could not even speak English that well and it took him 14 years to find her.

Don't really like them, but there's very little alternative these days. Currently having my first serious conversation with someone in a good 6 months (also happens to be first match in that time) and then it jumps to about 6 years from that last serious match, so very poor for any kind of caring average guy who isn't obsessed with their appearance.

I haven't used them so I don't have much of an opinion as far as personal success or failure. It doesn't bother me though, I have good friends that have found they husbands or wives by using them, and this was after they had tried very in person and traditional avenue they could think of. Some of the women also had a biological clock ticking so they didn't feel they could go on for years trying to find someone. I don't blame them.

I haven't used any of them but I'm not sure I can trust them. There aren't too many quality people on sites like Tinder and some people are only looking for hookups, not real relationships. There are also crazy people on those sites (I mean crazy in a bad way) and people who are catfishes.

I think they are more like, sex sites. The number i have tried thats all the guys are there for. Want a picture of you. What it mean one fully naked, showing everything..

I’ve never used one but I hear people complain a lot about how they’re just for hookups. I guess I’ll make my own judgment when I’m old enough to need one (rn I have a boyfriend plus my irl social circle is big enough for when I’m single).

I know several couples (some married, some in a serious relationship) that met on a dating site/app. I guess it depends on how you use it.

They're a necessary evil for most of us. If your lifestyle has you constantly meeting potential love interests, then by all means do that but most people don't have that luxury.

i used one before and i don't like them becuase the people there are mostly for either or hookups or are catfishes

The term "grain of salt" is the best description I can give. I think they're OK so long as you keep your expectations very low.. PersonallyI use them for entertainment value. Nothing more!

It's kinda fun to look through them and read the profiles, but it's a pretty forced and strange way to meet people in my opinion.
