Are lovey dubey couples common anymore?

I ask because whenever I do date someone, I have been a little more affectionate than I probably should be. I dated one lady last year and she told me she was never bothered by me doing it. But I keep feeling that I've overdone it with her, and other people I dated. I also don't see my friends with their spouses or either of my sisters with their husbands be too affectionate.
