DO NOT use the bullshit "whoever asked the other one out" excuse since we all know men do the asking 99% of the time and that is just a way of saying the man should pay. If you think he should pay, say so!

So, of course, the first woman to post here said "whoever asks the other person out". So of course I deleted her answer. I am really quite sick of that excuse so don't post it here.

There’s no set rule, and debating over who pays is something two adults can work out without calling up some non-existent etiquette is just dumb. Here are some options:
1. Separate checks, each picks up his or her portion of the meal plus gratuity.
2. One check, with each paying half plus half the gratuity.
3. Coin toss or Rock Paper Scissors to determine who pays the check. Whoever doesn’t pay the check picks up the gratuity. The other pays for the next meal, or works it out like grown ups should.
Not a difficult one.

I want to pay for the dish I ordered. I don't like the idea of splitting. If I only order a drink and you a whole buffet and then you want me to split, sorry no deal. If you're only ordering a drink and I'm stuffing myself, the same rule applies.

If the woman is traditional in belief, and if she is under employed or unemployed, its the mans duty to pay for her. If the woman is a feminist and/or regularly employed then she ought to pay as an opportunity to smash the patriarchy.

I was brought up that way. And it was the polite thing to do if you were willing to sway a young woman. I usually made more than the woman too.
I've also been invited to a woman's house for dinner she made a great dish. I prefer home cooked meals over a fancy restaurant or just at a local diner.
