My boyfriend wants me to tell him about my past relationship but I don’t want to talk about it?

He wants me to speak about it. I just see it as the past though and don’t want to open old wounds. Should I talk to him about it or not?

Maybe you could compromise and just share some basic details about it that you're comfortable talking about, and if he insists on more let him know it makes you uncomfortable & that you've moved on.

Or you could even just give him whatever watered down version you're comfortable sharing. Not like a full on lie, but you have no obligation to share anything you don't want to. Does that make sense at all?

By the way, from my own experience it ended up being unhelpful when my ex shared a lot of details about her previous relationships/experiences. In our case, she just openly shared a lot of past details without me really asking... I'm not saying that was wrong or anything, just that I didn't find it helpful to our own relationship.

So I'd say trust your own instincts.

It depends on what he wants to know. Like number of people you've been with? I'd just offer to go get std tested together and that would solve that. Not a bad idea anyway. Outside of that I can't see how it would be any of his business. If you are uncomfortable tell him no and if he doesn't like it he can just go kick rocks.

Tell him why you don't want to talk about it, he should respect that. Not all memories in our lives are good and happy ones. Some we would rather forget, he has to respect that wish. The relationship that matters now is the current one and no others!
