Should I give this guy another chance after he ended things between us?

This guy and I had a great connection so I was shocked he didn’t want to continue, he said he didn’t want to close the door but trailed off and we stopped seeing each other for months. he's 30 and only graduated this year and has been jobless. I didn’t know he was applying and failing at places and couldn’t luck out when we were seeing each other, so he was upset with that. He was hired at some place and has been working there for a month now and doing really well and told me this and said he’s just in a way better place for a relationship now that his career is more established and he isn’t stressed from that. I know I can be seen as being more high maintenance since I’m attractive and well put together and make a lot of money myself as an engineer. So I don't know if that intimidated him?
but should I give him another chance since he asked to start over for real between us? I do like him

considering the fact that personal matters in his life he had to get sorted out first before pursuing you. And he was honest with you about it. Major props to you for being an engineer and having your life situated!

Give him a chance.

The best context I can give is Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs.

He probably didn't want to leave you, but money is part of life. If anyone is always worrying about affording food or a place to live, its hard to hold a relationship while so preoccupied.

It likely does not matter 'how much you make'. Just having a job (even if he makes much less than you), gives a feeling of security, self sufficiency.

If his reason is because he wanted to be in a better place in his life then I'd say that's a good reason. That's a difficult thing to focus on if you're too busy focusing on someone else. I see no reason not to give it a go

If he is making all the choices and you are along for the ride, don't go back. If you both talked about breaking up and agreed. And are now both talking about getting back together, sure go for it.
