My mother tried to tell me how to live my life when I was 30, lived 600 miles away, and had been self sufficient since I was nineteen. It just wasn’t enforceable.

Some teenage multimillionaire rock stars managed to become emancipated minors, but still showed as much bad judgement as any other teenager.

So I’d really have mixed feelings on this one.

Well, she's still a minor and lives under the roof of her parents I assume. I would listen to what they say just for safe measure. You'll have dating freedom a whole bunch in just a short time when turn 18 anyway

An emancipated minor is a minor who has basically been declared an adult by a judge. She can live on her own, sign contracts, have a checking account, and does not require her parents’ permission to do anything.

Even if you are emancipated, if you live underneath their roof you need to abide by their rules. If you have your own place, make your own money then pretty much you should be free to do what you want, with whoever you want.

Then nobody has a right to tell you what to do or where to hang out. You are self-sufficient. Whoever is trying to control you, you can tell them that they don't pay your bills, I don't live under your roof so your opinion is invalid

Ehhh it depends for me. Legally they probably can be and maybe should be, but if a 17 year old wants to date or love someone older than 18, I can't complain. But if a 15 year old hooks up with a man in his mid 20s, I will be calling the police.

I think there should be some structure to protect her or him from themselves, yes. They're not adults. They can't legally drink or vote.

I understand but I came from extremely abusive family and I do think I have the right to make my own decisions because of that and I have my own income and own place.
