Western dating culture?

As an Asian, i'm puzzled by the dating in western culture. Why is it ok to date multiple at a time? I think it is waste of time, money and feelings:/ In my country, dating (seeing) with someone means having a relationship with them. Most people have sex after become a boyfriend/girlfriend. And people see only one person at a time!

Because just because you go on a date with someone a couple of times does not mean you are in a relationship. It just means you went somewhere together.
