The boy is my colleague. We haven't talked much. I like him and I feel he likes me. I'm afraid he thinks I don't want to talk to him. But I'm waiting for him to initiate. He doesn't know that. What if we miss the chance to find out what we think of each other?

Well, why are you waiting for him to initiate and not just initiate yourself? If you absolutely don't want to make the first move yourself, give him obvious or rather overt signs that you're into him and see how he reacts. Also, by giving him these signs, you can make it easier for him to initiate action.
