Word on the street is that the average person usually reads a text within the first 3 minutes of receiving it 95% of the time.

Anyone seriously or sincerely interested responds immediately. Even if its just to say; "I am busy, but will get back to you soon."

If they are mildly interested, or worried about coming off as too eager... then they take a few hours to respond.

Now some people intentionally wait until the next day, because again they don't want to come off as too eager or desperate.

So which are you, the respond immediately type or play it cool type, or the next day type?

So I am a respond immediately type, if see it and read it I am the respond in first 3 minutes type.

When comes to dating, especially starting off in first week or two... those types like me don't think its desperate looking. We think it polite to be sincere and geniue about our interests and not play games. So if you play it cool or stall responding because "your too busy." We take that as you being geniuely not interested.

I usually reply to texts whenever I see them unless I’m busy. People who chat with me regularly know when I’d be busy and not online. I usually let them know the day before. If I would not be able to come online, I would also inform them the same day before they text me. If it is someone I do not chat with much, I would send them a quick text explaining that I’m busy (if I am) and text them back whenever I’m free.

I do not really care about coming across as “too eager” or “desperate” or whatever… if I do not feel comfortable with someone, I would not interact with them, and till now, I’m only in contact with people I’m comfortable with. Whenever I’m comfortable around someone, I’m also secure. If they are a romantic interest and view me being interested and replying to them sooner as me being desperate, it’s on them, and they would be someone I would not associate myself with.

If they chating a romantic interest and they are tooo busy to check messages or reply after reading... well those types aren't for me. I live a slow pace laid back life style... low anxiety and no drsms. So responding to a text is no problem.

I answer when I see it and when I have time and the wish to respond.
I'm not that often on my phone and I work full-time so my responses do take time honestly.
During work I nearly never answer anyone, even when I see the text.
After work I mostly respond between 10mins - 2 hours, depends on my mood. I answer calls immediately tho or I call back within minutes

I voted play it cool, but it is a bit more complex than that.

If I see the text and have a moment, I'll click on it and read it.

If I'm busy, I'll get to it when I have a moment.

If I'm busy but you keep spamming me? I'm a trucker who is used to taking calls while driving with my touch free bluetooth, so if you start blowing up my phone then I will just voice command call you while I'm working.

I spend hours on long stretches of interstate, so I'll out talk you and make you wish you never bothered texting lmao. It will be about the most mundane topics or the cars I've seen today that were crazy or the information on my BOL papers.

You might get lucky and I can tell you about a fatal car crash I saw that will make you sad/surprised, but you will regret it about an hour into the conversation. I will make it my mission to annoy her lmao.

I respond immediately. (Unless it's one of those few people that texts me around the clock 24/7. In that case, I feel like I don't owe them a quick response. Because they didn't ask if I was busy or if I had time to chat. They just jumped right into it. To me, that's rude. Because it shows a lack of respect for my time. I have things to do. I can't text all day long.)

@DaveJord If it's someone I'm interested in, then yeah. I'll tell them I'm busy and I can't talk now. And I'll try to set something up. But if they don't cooperate in scheduling an appointment, then I let them go. Because even if I AM interested in someone, messaging me randomly is still a turnoff. I need someone who will respect my time. If they don't respect me, then I don't want to be in a relationship with them.

She sends me a picture on Friday, saying she was sick and she looked like shit... So I told her no problem, she said she was super sorry. I wished her well. We chatted on Saturday a little, she says she is still feeling like shit... I did not message her yesterday. Seems like one of these types that only responses to message so unless I text first she doesn't text me. So I will probably text her tonight after work sometime... she how she is doing, and see how it goes. If we do not meet by next weekend then I will be done with it. If stops replying then I will be done with it. So I don't know really I am about 75% over it, need to see more effort from her.

Some people thing waiting to respond is making them seem less desperate or they do not want you think they are more interested then they want you to think... guess is like playing hard to get. I for one respond immediately, if I am sincerely interested... I don't like playing those games.

Other wills say they don't check their phones that often or are too busy to respond immediately... well if I am chatting someone I am romantically interested in then I make sure to check my phone and respond. Even if it is only to say I am at work, or busy... I get off at 5 pm and I will hit you back later.

Playing cool is more like taking hours to reply... or chating for a few minutes back and forth tge ghosting for hours with saying good bye or I got to go be back later... the short replies without really saying anything.

Next day means you make them wait a whole 24 hours no matter what. Because you read it, and for what ever reason your tooooo busy or not wanting to reply too soon.
