Yes, because at my school, teachers achieved tenure based on their student satisfaction ratings and a lot of professors relied on their good looks to achieve it. Obviously they had to have intelligence and friendliness too but looks was a factor.

Yes, my botany teacher in 11th/12th grade. He was very intelligent, had a PhD as well, I think? Didn't hurt that he was also good looking. Sadly, I fell asleep in his class twice in a row.
