How much is the full rent and utilities every month?
I'm thinking 500 a month doesn't cover half of that, or if it does then you don't believe that you should pay your fair share?
So then that makes you look selfish.
He maybe having trouble paying the full amount so since you live there too you can contribute to the monthly expenses.
If not he has to find someone, not you, to help pay.

You ain't married so you can't really complain. If he demanded $995, that would be his right to do that too, whether you like it or not.

You need to decide if you want to be independent or not. If yes, then get a job where you can afford 100% of your own rent. If not, then find a dude who is willing to marry you -- which may require you to have character traits you don't currently have -- depending on your personality.

If 500 is half it's fair. Your boyfriend probably doesn't have a ton of interest in you as a partner though if he can afford to pay more but is choosing not to do so

Okay, rent is $712 (wow! can't even rent a parking space around here for that). Add electric, gas, food, internet, etc. Yeah, probably easily $1000. With no additional info $500 sounds fair.
