    Yes and no.

Obviously that's one strong motivator, but it certainly isn't the only one, or even the primary one. Love and companionship are the main reasons (for most men who choose to be in a relationship). If sex was the only reason, you would see a much larger amount of men trying for one night stands and visiting prostitutes, but the numbers for those are probably decreasing a bit.

The biggest problem that men face is similar to the one women face: finding a partner worthy of a relationship. There are too many people who are so fed up with the current state of relationships that they have given up on actively pursuing them - yet, at least for men, most are electing to go without sex entirely rather than prostitution or all the time, expense, and hassle of pursuing casual sex. But even the majority of those men still WANT a relationship, and clearly for more than just sex.

The big difference between men and women is that men start at zero, and must build their own value - and guys playing video games and working at Game Stop into their 30s aren't really doing much of that. Women are given their value simply by becoming teenagers and having a womb, but their job is to PRESERVE their value and to establish their relationship while they still have that value.

Feminism has lied to women and told them that they can do everything that men can do, but this is an example of where that doesn't work. A man can mess up in his 20s, and still be at zero, but if he changes and works hard, he can still grow his value when he's older. Women CANNOT grow their value, because they start at the top, and can only lose value - and those losses are permanent. No one tells women this, so by the time they figure it out, it's usually too late.

Womens value doesn’t always come from there womb. The women that I value I value for their intelligence, wit, or caring.

@Faith18letsgo We were discussing ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS, and how MEN value women in the context of being relationship partners. You are, presumably, talking about friendships, which is a very different dynamic, and you are also not a man.

I'd say yes, from the standpoint that I wouldn't be dating a woman at all if I wasn't interested in a sexual relationship. I LOVE women.

That being said, I wouldn't have sex with anyone just because they were willing. I actually DO want a relationship, which means that we have to like each other enough to become infatuated and enter into an exclusive relationship.

I want more than sex. I'm looking for a trusted best friend to hang out, go places and do things with, converse and confide in, have fun with, learn from, and build memories. I want someone who enjoys being with me as much as I do her. But her femininity and sexuality is very important.

I don't worry about "love" initially because that can only come after being in a relationship for quite a while. Infatuation/mutual adoration is more than enough for starters.

I don't know what to believe. When we hear about feminism, don't you also think of the mad ones? The ones who are just man haters instead of wanting equality? Just like news in general, we hear about the bad first before the good. I believe in equality for the most part, but if I hear feminism I will always think of the haters.

I wonder if it's also the case with this case about guys. I got cat called, approached by horny men, groped even. Online wasn't much better, you get messaged by horny men looking for just a quick hookup or nudes. Even here it's shady to the point that I barely answer my DMs.

But every man who I get along with, is not in or looking for a relationship for sex but companionship. So maybe it's the same here. Maybe the horny men are just easier to spot than the good ones. They don't make it hard, do they? But good people as a whole, it takes time to know if a person is good.

I can personally appreciate a guy pursuing me for that. Men are funny and smart all around, so if one of the male species happens to stick around me because of what I can offer and he likes me, then I don’t see why I should HATE it, or him LoL

Sex is always a factor for a man, but for most men who are really wanting a relationship, the sex is just a bonus. The initial thing most men care about is being with somebody who actually likes and cares about him, wants to really know him, and bring something good to his life. This is still better than most women who just want a relationship simply because they don't want to be single and lonely.

Touché. Also there is no such thing as a true “relationship” between a man and woman unless she is seriously only holding off for marriage. If that’s the only reason than there will be times she herself feels tempted. But any other reason not to have sex is really just a huge bullshit smokescreen for the friendzone.

@PinkRose24 A man can go years without a partner even if it hurts, but a woman will shack up with a pathetic loser or abusive narcissist - and keep running back to him - because she'd rather put up with that than be alone.

@PinkRose24 it’s more than that. When a woman is single and she is at least semi good looking chances are she is voluntarily single. She can claim to be independent, strong, etc. The worst stereotypes she will take it being too picky (which is supposed to be good right?) or way over the top crazy/weird. So crazy/weird that a trained psychiatrist would know she was in the same building as him despite not seeing her or talking to her. But semi weird/crazy attractive women will always get leeway with men.

Men on the other hand who are at least semi good looking do NOT get any positive stereotypes for being single. They will likely be labeled beta, weak, gay, etc. unless they are known manwhores. They get way less leeway to be crazy/weird when trying to date vs. their female equivalent.

I know this because when I was single for most of my 20s (although I was discreetly a player at times) I got all sorts of horrible stereotypes on my relationship status despite being called “cute” all the time.

One (sad) silver lining about being older and not “cute” anymore is at least people don’t question and trash my sexuality nowadays being single. But both men and women usually judge good looking single men unfairly and harshly. So one motivation for a guy to get a girlfriend is to feel more “accepted” in judgmental society.

It's probably what they consider to be the biggest prize or benefit. They "put up with a lot" in order to get regular sex.

The more evolved ones also want companionship, etc.

I'd say yes. I mean how many guys really enjoy shopping and Starbucks like a chick? The 'common interest' which is required even in a platonic relationship usually just isn't there. If you break it down to sex (usually his main interest) and attention (usually her main interest) and see how sex/attention overlap and it starts to make sense.

Sure substance abuse or having the same job/school can help, but let's be real... a dude and a chick don't hook up because they both love the Ninja Turtles. I mean they could... but that would be one hell of a love story.

Common interests aren't there because opposites tend to attract. Doesn't have anything to do with sex. I've always preferred having friends/relationships with opposites to learn new things

Sex is important to us but sex with a girl that wants us the same as we want her , I can’t just have sex with a girl for the hell of it , I know there are guys that can do that shit but not the way I am, I need to feel that it is going somewhere , we have chemistry and connection and make each other feel wanted , If I have sex with a girl I want her coming back for more and more , I don’t kick her to the side and say Next , to me that is dirty and degrading , Now if she kicks me to the side then there is nothing I can do about that. So it’s always a 50/50 chance on whether she is on the same page as me or she is just looking to get laid , beauty is important to me but it isn’t all I am after , She has to have a great personality and have morals for me to be interested , Just how I roll

This is just my mere opinion.

Sex is important, to me yes, if I want a relationship for sex yes, it’s better than treating a woman with mixed feelings. If we get along, worked out well and it’s what we feel enough. I don’t want to let go of the woman. Either way wanting a relationship isn’t that easy. It means we are however investing some emotions, feelings, attachment, trust, opening our heart.

If I invested 3 years of my time then figure out she isn’t sexual, then it’s a Total disaster.

Sort of as ManOnFire said: to me, Sex is only 1 of the puzzle pieces needed to make a complete...

What I mean is that I wouldn't say that my what-if/would-be is in a relationship, if sex is the only reason. Has to be something else "outside". Something consistent.

A lot do... the good ones don't though. The ones that do though, will end up unhappy frustrated because a relationship was never the goal for them, they use a relationship to get sex and it becomes transactional instead of being centered around something that is meaningful and that will last.

I wouldn’t say most, but of course there will be a group who do. You don’t need a relationship to have sex, most guys who only want sex avoid relationships and stick to hookups or friends with benefits.

Sex is always great to have, but not necessarily the primary main focus. If I was in a relationship, I would desire a romantic, loving type of a relationship. Sex would definitely be included yes, but I'm not the kind of guy that I go for the "Find them, feel them, f*ck them and forget them". I do expect a committed and romantic relationship out of it as well.

So... No. Not every guy is going to be thinking like that.

I didn't. It really depends on whether or not you believe index outside of a relationship. I don't, so we won't even be having sex until we are in a relationship. I won't date a girl I don't want to have sex with, but I also don't date a girl only for sex. I date her to see if I want ti marry her.

Basically yes, though I'd say it's about attraction with the hope of sex. However, no matter HOW attractive you are, if the sex happens too quickly, that's generally the end of "the relationship".

For example, take your profile pic. I don't know if that's you or not, but that's a really hot looking girl. In my opinion, the vast majority of guys would take one look and want to get with her, not even knowing a thing about her.

I think not. In the grand scheme of things, if sex is all a guy wants, that's pretty easy to get. Most guys enter a relationship to expand on their life, to have someone to share things with, and raise a family (if that's what they want).

Let me answer from an unpopular point of view.

The sexual urge is a natural urge given to all by the creator. And for those of us who have some fear of boundaries, we know that the creator also opened the door for us via a married relationship. That is the boundary. So part of the reason to decide to get married is to avoid looking for other sources to satisfy our urge.

No. I would enter a relationship because I thoroughly enjoy spending time with her, and like her as a person. Sex is a way to show affection and is certainly something I would enjoy, but it’s just a piece of the relationship. If the entire success of relationship is predicated on sex and how optimal it is, it probably won’t be very fulfilling.

Yes, for the most part, until they reach 30.

Having a partner for convenience and/or companionship is probably the prime motive after turning 30.

to be honest its a bad deal it thats the only thing in a guys mind... But what a guy wants in a relationship usually dont gets it... So moatly likely would be a bad deal any way... Any who it sex is the only or primery reason then rent a girlfriend would be much better option because why the fuck one is gonna give a fuck about anything if this is how one thinks... Plus no guy would ever get marry... Just want someone who really want you.. Someone for who you are the special one.

I think it depends on where the guy is in his life. Big difference in being a grown up man and a horny teenager.

Companionship, a partner in life to make me smile while i am in pain. A partner that i can take care of so i wouldn't feel useless, a partner to make me feel that i am seen

Sounds true, guys tend to be more sexual than girls, and sex tend to be important.

I wouldn´t say most but many because not all guys are solely looking for sex that doesn´t mean is unimportant to them but it´s not only goal for the majority of guys in my experience.

I'm not waiting until marriage, at some point I will be expecting sex... So, yes.

We aren't JUST using her for sex, if that's what you're implying... But, yes.. sex is a huge driving factor for many men (and I would assume women as well)

    I have enough friends.

No, I feel like most guys enter relationships because they feel good and we’re told that’s what we should do.

      Lol thanks.

It roughly summarizes stuff I've been looking into about myself and other guys having issues. More detail below but it's long so don't feel pressured to read it all.

Men's lives are extremely lacking in intimacy and are often reduced to "utilitarian" and "functional" motivations.

Because relationships and sex are our most clear source of intimacy, all of our loneliness and need for emotional support essentially gets funneled into our sex drive. So while we have high libidos, we also associate sex with intimacy as a whole, validation, and emotion support amongst other things. I def noticed it in myself.

This was also covered in a documentary about Australian brothels. They encourage (and I think pay for?) their employees to get degrees in psychology. This is because it's a common occurrence for a guy to arrive thinking he just needs to get laid, but sometimes they'll just cuddle, vent their emotional state, or some would just break down crying and need consoling.

If you've seen/read game of thrones, I believe this was also part of why GRRM has so much "sexposition" in his stories. Characters revealing parts of their innermost selves to prostitutes, where they feel they can be vulnerable and secrets can be kept.

And it's why Littlefinger uses his brothel to acquire personal information about clients he can use for political gain.

They even had members of the unsullied visiting brothels and just want the girl to cuddle and sing to them. They were taken from their mothers very early to be trained soldiers.

Very interesting 🤔 I like everything about this comment.

It speaks to a level of compassion in me lost somewhere, and it’s definitely not anything like the opinions I have built about guys over the last couple of years, based on text alone and sexting.

I don’t mind being wrong. I’m wary of any lurking things in the subconscious, but for the most part I like your trend in your comment, and your train of thought.

I’ll have to look into this.

Male perspective on it without my asking seems unbiased and helpful. Very intriguing indeed.

I hope you find something more conclusive/ concrete, and can help others in any way whatever the results would be.

I hope you also find success and happiness in your ventures. 🙂👌

Yeah I'd probably have a much different view receiving dick pics. I feel like some guys are just too far in the bubble. Especially if they think showing their dick counts as "flirting".

I don’t know about “most”, but certainly a lot. Without seeing empirical data for or against, i wouldn’t argue with 50%. Ell oh ell!

Sex or the idea of sex with her BUT no quality guy ever takes a woman seriously if he thinks that's all she has to offer.

No, I want a genuine lifelong relationship, as do many other men.

Sex is important too, but without mental compatibility and commitment, it's not worth it.

I think the reason women tend to think guys only care about sex, is that often guys will discuss that part of a relationship first, especially if she is flirting, but that doesn't mean thats all that matters.

Yes, I do think so. Because in my opinion, a relationship, is sex. If it wasn't, all of us who say we have "just friends" of the opposite sex, could then say "we're all in relationships", right?

It's the opposite. If a guy is just looking for sex he stays away from a relationship and just looks to have sex with random people or have a friends with benefits situation.

Some, both men and women, might do that. But I would assume that most people get into a romantic relationship because they want more than just sex.

It depends on what kind of relationship. If it's a committed one, then no. Sex is important for sure, but it's certainly not the only reason. If it's just a friends with benefits or casual sex-based relationship, then sure.

Most won't stay in a relationship if sex doesn't occur within a self-imposed time period, tho.

For me no. I always enjoyed masturbating. I don't need the sex even though it is pleasurable and enjoyable. I need someone to share a joke with, cook me a good meal, have a good conversation with, go out to dinner with, etc.
