I have been dating this guy for 8 months. We were getting along great. He said he really liked me and I said the same to him. We slept together. I asked him status of relationship and he got offended by this bc he couldn’t understand why I would even think he wanted to sleep with others. He said he forgave me. He then texted me that he couldn’t stand the taste/smell of my makeup. I was really hurt by the way he stated this bc it was so out of left field. I blew up over text. He texted me the next day that he didn’t want it to end this way and he is sorry that he hurt me as this was not his intent. I read this as being dumped and said if he didn’t want end to end/ liked me as much as he said he does why doesn’t he pick up the phone and work this out. He has not responded to my email. I have apologized for my part. It’s been 4 days. I’m really shook. I lashed out a bit this morning saying if he didn’t want me then fine, I’ll leave him alone. No response. I don’t undertstand why if someone really likes you and doesn’t want something to end why they behave like this.

Asker, this gentleman that you are seeing is simply ridiculous and seems to have a stunted mental development. How in the world is getting offended over a relationship status check even considered as “sane”? Everyone does it. You slept together and had great chemistry, and just wanted to know if he was open to being something more exclusive with you, literally everyone does that unless you have talked about this beforehand or he had asked you to be his girlfriend already.

He seems like the male version of one of the stuck up mean girls in high school. You are not a mind reader and you are not at fault here at all.

However, I’m not sure what his exact words were when he told you that your makeup did not smell good. Was he being harsh? If he was, your equally harsh response would have been the right answer to this situation, Bit next time when someone does this, I’d advise you to remain calm and not show them that their opinions has hurt or affected you in any way (if they are being snarky). It just seems so… petty and it seems like he is just searching for lame excuses to end this relationship.

Personally, if he is stressing you out this much at the beginning of the relationship (or are you guys just dating?) imagine how worse it’ll get as it progresses. You need to find yourself someone who will not treat you or disrespect you this way. Find someone who will accept you as you are. Not someone who is a very poor communicator, or an asshole.

I personally feel he was being ridiculous for being so offended by that. Maybe I'm not fully understanding what you asked him but sounds like he didn't really have much attachment to your relationship
