What would you do in my situation about this guy?

There is a guy I am crushing on and like for a long time. We became friends and he finally asked me out. We went out but on the date he was really nervous and we struggled in conversation a bit, i expected something different. What would you in my place?

That is not unusual to struggle to find conversation on a first date. It is nerve wracking enough for most. It is easy for it to get awkward when there is silence and you can't figure out what to talk about. You need to look at this a couple of ways.

One, it is a first date. You are just getting to know each other. No one expects you both to know what is going to interest each other on a first date. That is half the problem with conversation. You are both looking to talk about something of interest but probably don't know what those interests are yet.

The second thing is that it will get better with time. The more dates you go on, the more you will learn likes and dislikes. It isn't worth giving up after one date because you couldn't find a lot to talk about.

What I suggest is thinking of some topics you think he might like to talk about before the next date. Just have two or three things to start conversations with. For example, if he is into sports, have some sports things to bring up. That will get conversation flowing. Just look at whatever you do know about him and see if you can think of the conversation starters.

Struggling in a conversation is nothing unusual. A great number of people are nervous on the first date, mainly if those people have no previous dating experience. I presume it is a daunting experience because you have no idea how to behave, what to talk about, what the other person is like or how that person behaves.

You feel that you were disappointed by the experiment. What would it have taken for you to feel better? If there is a second date, direct the conversation to a topic that you know may interest him. Make him feel at ease by doing some research and then talking perhaps about his hobby.

If he is nervous, try to calm him down and allow him also to ask questions about yourself and your likes/dislikes.

Many people feel out of place during the first date. Good luck with your second date and if you can, just listen rather than to put pressure on him by questioning him and making him feel uncomfortable and stressed.

This is totally normal. The more time that you spend together the better your communications will be. Talking about what you two share or are interested in is a good way to do as well. Hanging out on dates will take care of it all. Hang in there.

When you are warming up to someone in can be nerve racking. It isn't uncommon to struggle for conversation as you both are getting to know each other learn what common ground you both have. Maybe if you talk about an activity you both enjoy you can do that on your second date
