Depends how long ago they split, and whether they had any flings since then.

Example, I still chat with one of my exes from several years ago, but neither of us have any intentions beyond platonic.

Not if they have kids together. If they don't have kids, I would see it as a red flag especially if the ex is a recent ex

I'm confused, if he broke up, you'd think he isn't chasing.

Most guys I know who brake up with the girl become indifferent and while they wouldn't wish anything bad on their ex, they could literally care less about them anymore
