Is it a red flag if you’re in the talking stage with someone seeing where things go but they are still choosing to keep an ex around non romantically?

He isn't over his ex yet or she would be gone. This guy is playing you for some side action. Have you considered that he could go back to his ex at any time and leave you to pick up the pieces? Move on and find someone who doesn't have baggage.

Very true. I agree. I am keeping an eye and observing his behavior as I don’t think I should get my hopes up and think his reasoning is bullshit. He says his ex has mental health issues and he wants to look out for her as a “friend” but it just doesn’t sound right still to me.
