Frankly, I'm at work to work and earn a paycheck. I'm not there to make friends or date someone. So I'm not social at work in general and tend to quickly shutdown any conversation where people attempt to get to know me on a social level. He might be like me on some level.

Or he simply seen a nasty break up play out at a job and that was enough to get him to stop dating at work.
