My boyfriend (with whom I am in a ldr atm) has stopped putting an effort. When I suggest breaking up, why does he refuse it?

I've tried ignoring him completely a couple of times and he reaches out until I respond. I told him yesterday that if he doesn't change I'm gonna move on, and he said that he gets me and will sort it out. But he was supposed to text me after landing (he flew back home) last night and he didn't, found an excuse in the morning (put my phone on charge and fell asleep).

How is it you have to keep trying to end things as if you need his consent? All he can do is keep trying to call or message, and I’m not the most gadget-savvy but the fact that he has access to you tells me he is not blocked everywhere. So why are you afraid to cut him off in a real way? This man is not changing, and there is no incentive because you keep caving and taking him back. Him blowing you up is not effort, it’s him wanting to control the narrative and if you two ever broke up, it would be on his terms. How shitty would you feel? Knowing that it should’ve been you walking away, but it gets to be him being strong enough to finalize things? You can do better than this situation if you actually allowed yourself to let go.
