I think you should date this guy if the age thing doesn't bother YOU.

In other words, if you would date this guy WITHOUT considering what your friends, family, or society might think about it, then yes, you should.

This is difficult to answer because I think it depends a whole lot on the specific 25 year old, and the specific 39 year old we're talking about.

It really depends so much on where each of you "are in life", as well as your personal histories, and frankly, even your personalities.

So I don't think this question can be answered in general terms like:

"Should a 25 year old girl date a 39 year old guy".

Depends.

The thing that makes these types of relationships dangerous is the "power imbalance" inherent in the age difference. You need to ask yourself if there are other ways that make this power imbalance worse.

The most obvious 'power imbalance' is money/position. If you're a recently graduated student with an entry level job and a bunch of debt, and this guy makes great money that's going to make the power imbalance worse.

If you've never had a boyfriend before, but he's had lots of relationships... that's going to make the power imbalance worse.

If you sit there and feel dumb because he seems so goddamn smart and well-spoken... that's going to make the power imbalance worse.

There's lots of things that can make that power imbalance worse. The worse the power imbalance, the more you need to "be careful" about getting involved with this guy.

Generally though, my advice is to do whatever feels right to YOU. Don't let your friends pressure you into it if you aren't really wanting to. But don't let "what people would think/say" keep you from dating him if you DO want to.

a date is just a date. simply hanging out, enjoying yourselves and trying to know each other better. anything else is just extra that may or may not happen.

taking away the age gap, what harm do you see in just hanging out with the guy? how much do you trust the people that are vouching for him?

I certainly don't think that the age gap should stop you. I'm dating a guy 15 years younger and it's easily the best relationship I've ever been in.

I'm not saying that's for sure going to be the case for you, but it absolutely could be. The only way you'll know is if you give it a try

Oh, I thought you were engaged or married. you're so cool. I am sure a guy is going to marry you. You have a lot of the same interests as me, and you have a sense of humor which a sense of humor is the most important thing, not to make some laugh but to let them know you can talk about anything with them and get personal.

A lot of times, you can't get personal with someone. You can only talk using a vanilla way of speaking, and it is hard to get intimate with them. That is your best quality.
