Do you think I’ll hear from him or not?

Asked a colleague out for drinks before he went on vacation. First he immediately replied “when?” And so I said “whenever” because he was taking time off and I didn’t think it was right of me to suggest a time during it. So he said “Maybe. I’ll let you know. I have your number I’ll call you.” And then nothing but radio silence this whole entire week. Today is the last day of his vacation, do you think he will let me know his answer or was the silence his lack of interest?

Honestly, I am just going to be guessing here. Only he knows the reason he hasn't reached out. Perhaps he forgot. Perhaps something happened with life in general. Maybe he got busy or had a family member that got ill. Maybe he just isn't interested. Any of those are possibilities, along with a host of other things.

If you have his number or a way of reaching out to him, I suggest you do so. Just ask if there is a good time since vacation is ending. See what he says. It may have completely slipped his mind.

The fact that he had a positive response when you asked leads me to believe it may have just been something that happened and he hasn't had the time or forgot. Since you already asked him once, what is the harm in just mentioning it again? That is what I would do in this situation.

That’s the thing that gets me. Is why brother asking “When?” Immediately and then pull it back with a “maybe” If he had just said “maybe” I’d just have considered it a weak no and moved on.

If he doesn’t reach out tonight, I think I’ll try talking him tomorrow if I see him. We work opposite shifts so if he is not needed he leaves early.

Next time, you see him suggest a day to go out for drinks or ask him what day is the best for him... If he flakes, forget that idea and move on.

Yes I know it isn’t optimal to date people you work with. But we now work opposing shifts and he knows that once I have the opportunity to go to another location for advancement I would immediately take it.

I do realize he owes me nothing and we are not yet dating hence going for drinks instead of a full blown date. Which I fully intended to pay for since I was the one inviting him out no matter how the evening might have went.

If I see him tomorrow at work I will follow up with him. Honestly now that I’m kind of wondering if he knew that I was asking him out in a non platonic way since I do go out with a group of our coworkers for drinks after our shift is done.
