Are naturally intelligent and/or well read, autodidactic (self taught) women really less desirable?

I’ve had more men than not on an anecdotal and not research related basis claim they aren’t really okay with the concept of an educated partner, at least on the internet.

Studies indicate that many men claim they prefer an intelligent partner but are not won over when actually face to face with a potential partner of this caliber. I’ve personally experienced this myself, it seems to boil down to the age old “problem” of offending a man’s ego.

So how do the men here feel about it?

I would rather have an intelligent problem, than a drooling idiot. Unfortunately, I say that from experience.

I find that it ultimately boils down to one of two problems, overall. The first being that some naturally intelligent people (though certainly not all), have a natural arrogance that tends to come across as abrasive. This applies to both men, and women, but someone who is a know-it-all, or condescending tends to rub people the wrong way.

The other being one that you've already addressed. Some men (again, not all), prefer to feel superior to their partner. I don't, personally, understand that, but it does happen with unfortunate regularity. An intelligent woman is more difficult for them to "control" or they feel emasculated by the level of independence she exhibits.

I'm definitely not accusing you, or anyone else, of these traits; it's just my own anecdotal evidence. Basically, what this long winded explanation boils down to is that some men have a problem with it, and/or some women are the cause of it

Somewhere out there, however, is someone that will appreciate you for who you are, so don't give up until you find that someone.

I don’t know that having a natural intelligence makes a person abrasive on purpose. I think, often, it just feels that way to a person of more average intelligence. Being more observant, astute and clear minded than someone else will inevitably make them feel inferior and lash out.

Well, nothing wrong with TRUE independence from people, as long as they know how to be respectful with others, and still be able to handle holding a slice of humble pie, every now and then, when it matters.

See, if you’re truly independent and all set in where you are, there shouldn’t be any ‘clash’ with others because you wouldn’t be trying to prove things to people or always trying to convince them of who you are.

You let them hold as little as the perceptions they make/formulate about you, and those smart enough to understand and perceive your true character and abilities, will comprehend/ realize that truth on their own.

Women climbing the ladder, whether they are nice or not, will encounter men on different rungs of the ladder, who will be nice and not nice and will either, at times, question and the others will be pushy about it- POSSIBLY.

That kind of scenario will always provide plenty of friction and misunderstandings.

Woman well established will not run into that kind of issue, and will not be insecure, nor worry about men’s insecurities themselves.

I think for now this is all I can say on the matter, I may add more in the comments if something comes to me.

Be proud of who you are and come to be, but don’t let any ego get in the way of those who only mean well and are who they are as well.

I am not intimidated by educated and accomplished women, actually I find it pretty hot.

Anecdotal knowledge, well there is nothing wrong with that... as long as it does not completely contradict with actual facts. She's got to be able to decern what's factual and wants not, what's a reliable source and who is full of shit, can't trust everything you find on the internet.

I like intelligent women but most of them prefer somebody formally educated, which I am not. I'm street smart, have a lot of common sense, have great real life problem solving skills, am very intuitive, and managed to live a relatively comfortable life for somebody who is "uneducated". I've rarely seen a highly intelligent woman with a man who is not on the same level intellectually or has the same level of formal education. Just like a lot of men are intimidated by a woman who is their intellectual superior, a lot of women see men less intelligent and especially less formally educated than themself as inferior.

Hmmm well I just lost a relationship with probably the most amazing woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of being with. She was super intelligent and ambitious. Give her a day and she could conquer the world. I loved it. After she left I definitely feel like I won’t find a woman of this caliber again. Still think of her daily. She could match my wits and even out wit me half the time. She was gorgeous to boot. The ego thing could have been an issue but for me it was more the anxiety of “when will she leave me” or “she can definitely get better than me”. I’m an average guy with above average Intellect a decent 6 figure job, my own place, blah blah blah. Basically I’m fairly put together. But still thought she was too good for me. And the second guessing drove her away. If a man can’t accept a woman who is all of the above (instead becoming intimidated) isn’t worth the time.
