That is one of the big reasons people do it, but everyone has their own reasons.

It is a valid reason, I can get a date easy enough but I'd rather have a friend to hang out with and spend time without any pressure of romance or wanting more.

Best friends often make the best romantic partners later on.

I know how hard it is when your not the most social. I suffered from ultra shyness and social anxiety for a very long time.

I'm not a introvert though, I'm not a extrovert either, I'm an ambivert, sometimes I love to get out with friends and do stuff in public, other times I just want to stay home and avoid people.
