At your age, people differ in their level of maturity. Don't judge his suitability by his age, buy by his individual maturity and the interests you have in common. That requires that you at least give hm a chance and spend some time becoming more familiar with him.

If your only hangup is the age difference then you absolutely should not let that stop you.

I'm married to a man 15 years younger than me (so 1 year is nothing haha). At first I was super hesitant because of the age gap. However, when I decided to at least keep an open mind about it I quickly found out how much of an incredible guy he was, how incredibly compatible we were, how strong my feelings quickly grew for him, and how stupid I'd be to let him go just because of the age gap. I've never had such an amazing relationship (including with all the guys my age/older I dated). I'm so glad I didn't let him go just because of his age!

I don't take this as a serious question as it is written. The only "concern" there might be is within your age range people are more likely to be incredibly immature and inexperienced. Assuming you won't immediately throw yourself at him sexually then if you like him you could date him , taking it slow and cautiously.
