Does a controlling relationship last for a while?

I've had my eye on this girl at work for almost a year now. She told me she likes me (didn't say as a friend or romantically) and we started becoming close friends. We exchanged numbers recently, but she has a boyfriend. She always confides in me and she tells me that this person can see all her social media accounts, texts, and her location on at all times. I really want to text her and pursue my love for her, but I'm waiting for this relationship to end between them, given the way how her boyfriend is a control freak.

Do majority of girls leave controlling relationships or try to work with their man?
