When I was in my early 20s at my second long term job, I disappeared from MSN for months or years and when I a reappeared everybody was initiating contact with me and trying to get me in conversation. I got more attention then a celebrity, but it only lasted half a week and then my attention was normalized again. Disappearing and reappearing diminishes long term interest and only builds short term interest in certain situations and with certain people.
