I think - when you know where you will live, who will be at your wedding, have enough money for a place to live or at least qualify for a loan or a family gift to buy some place to live, and your bride has agreed on the location you will live and you can afford the lifestyle the two of you agree to. Also when you know you are happy with her as a wife and she knows she is happy with you as a husband.

How ever long it takes for him to research divorce statistics, female nature, bias courts, do a full cost-to-benefit analysis and understand all of the risks involved.

I don't think you should wait long if you know. You have to lock it down, girls have too many options if you wait she will be gone. People on here will say years i'd be more inclined to say months.
