Yeah, I'd say 2 years. If you've been with a guy for a year he knows most of your bs. I say wait a year and half to two years (tops) to shake off any oddities you haven't seen yet. Beyond the 24-month time frame (where you've been able to observe her and your responses to her across each season... twice) I'd say you're just not into a commitment with her. Something is giving you cold feet and you have to assess whether it's YOU or HER that's causing it. If it's YOU, stop wasting her time, especially if she's intent on starting a family and living her life. If it's HER, have a chat with her and explain whether you need more time, or whether it's time to part ways.
This would depend on both of their ages and positions. If we're talking about two teens that just barely graduated from HS or are within their first year of college (18-20 years old), then it would be wise for them to finish the first 4 years of college first and then decide if they can be engaged..
If it's a couple in their 30's, then 2 years would be the limit. Anything exceeding that timeframe, it's not good for the woman if she wants kids within a marriage and not out of wedlock.
2-4 years seems like the right amount of time to date before proposing
Well, however long is necessary. If my and my boyfriend stay together and he were to propose before we were done with school (long time for that) then it could be years and years until we are both stable and ready to marry.
So, I think a lot will depend on the individual situation of the couple, like us.
If it doesn't happen by the latest 3 years he just isn't that into you. They always say a guy knows very soon how they feel about you. So if he doesn't want to marry you after 2 to 3 years he genuinely doesn't really want you as his forever person.
No real limit... if i love him and he loves me marriage is really not that important. I do not need our relationship to be validated by "marriage"
Do you agree that there is a 'too soon' for most people though?
Nope... its a totally personal choice. Who am I to judge?
ok i disagree. sure some.. some couples they can get married right away but most of the time when people rush into it it tends to fail. thats how i see it anyways.
its not about judging its about being very careful because this person is someone you will potentially spend the rest of your life with. gotta be 110% sure
2 years, 20% damn.
there's no rush in getting married in my opinion. You gotta do what works for both...
agreed. i wish more had your mindset on this lol
depends how old i am and where we're at in our lives
im in my 20s rn and people change a lot especially in what they want, so i don't wanna get married till im older so im gonna wait a while lol if i were near 30 then probably 3 years
5 years is the max me and my husband got engaged at dating for 2 years but also had a 2 year engagement
Knowing them after a year, you should already know whether you would spend the rest of your life with this person. I just wouldn’t waste my time on one person more than a year. It feels like a waste when I could be finding someone else who already knows what they want.
Disagree
@Still-alive 1 yr
so if a guy doesn't propose to you within 1 year would you leave?
@Still-alive
Yes or just talk to him straight
wow thats kinda... welp thats your opinion lol.
Over 3 years. You should know by then
It depends on the kinda relationship they having..
A year or year and a half.
