What are some unique dating customs or traditions in your region?

For example, gender roles are still prevalent in my country, and traditional gender roles often drive dating traditions. I mean, usually men are expected to take the lead in the relationship. On the first date, it is very welcome for the man to bring a small gift like flowers, or the man is expected to pay the bill for the first date. So, what are yours?

Probably the most well known is the love spoon. Guys would carve ornate spoons to impress girls but now their mostly sold to tourists or given as wedding gifts.

The Maid's Trick was another. The fire was made up and a feast of food was left on the table while the girl washed her underwear in fresh spring water. The underwear would then be left to dry on the back of a chair in front of the fire and, with the door unlocked, the girl would retire to bed. Her future husband would then supposedly come and eat the feast. Can't think why that one died out.

You have to serenade the woman you want and if she likes it she marries you, but if she hates it then the father gets to slap you in the face… it’s a big risk so yea. Also we don’t do big marriage weddings like those Americans. Both sides of the family come together and shack hands it’s kind of similar looking to the ending of an American basketball game or baseball game it reminds me of the same thing.

dating is very hard not because no one wants to date but because the process is difficult. To even be considered to date you must prove yourself by bravery. You must travel to the place where lions live and camp there for 3 days. If you survive 👍 but if you quite. Again you receive a slap from the father for wasting his time and money because he pays for you to travel. As you can guess not a lot of dating but also not a lot of cheating, because anyone able to sleep with lions must be very brave and crazy.

Unique? No clue.
I personally just noticed that the city I live in is mostly really open, accepting and modern. So dating is mostly an open communication and a casual getting to know each other, no pressure, no strings attached. No certain rules I guess
Sure there are still a lot of people who play games, lie or are just fucking toxic but I wanted to focus on the positive side

In my region, ha for some sitting in the park, smoking weed and drink is a date, for others they have to go all out. Nothing particularly unique about the midwest
