It’s ego , but also receiving attention releases serotonins and other chemicals in your body that make you feel “good” so whenever someone posts something it releases those and makes them feel great about themselves for that very moment.

They have underlying mental illness that they probably not aware of. Some are just narcissist or egoistical.

Having a connection with another human being is a wonderful thing, not only to alleviate loneliness, but also to share, to say "I like this, do you?", to find common ground, thereby strengthening bonds.
