Is it wrong or is it technically "all fair in love and war?" I feel this need to compete with my friend in things. Just harmless competition, nothing horrible. Just normal competition between friends.
She likes this guy, and I want to see if I can get his attention before her. She only quite likes him, it's not like they're in love, so I feel it's not that bad to do. I don't really like him, I just want to see if I can get his attention. Would it be wrong?
Yes. I'll explain why.
1) It's girl code. You don't get with a friend's recent ex, boyfriend, crush (assuming she's not crushing on everyone) or husband. It immediately earns you the badge of 'bad friend'. Especially not on purpose.
2) I would bet that all of this is because you secretly want to hurt this so-called friend of yours. I am reading between the lines here. You aren't as slick as you think. What has she ever done to deserve you plotting behind her back? Probably nothing, you are just a jealous b and want to take what she has to feel better about yourself and to hurt her feelings.
3) It makes you look like a ho, if I'm honest. If people around you find out what you're plotting, even if they just see you getting with your friend's crushes, they'll think you're a slut. That'll be your reputation. The guy she likes might think you're a ho too and not to be trusted. If you can't be loyal to friends, why would you be loyal to a guy?
4) You most definitely will lose your friendship if you do this. Maybe that's what you deserve tbh. I really hope you reconsider this and choose to be better. It's bad karma all round.

See, people like you are why I don't have many female friends: you call yourself her friend, yet you're trying to compete with her over a GUY. You don't even like him yet you want him and his attention? Girl...
Please do your friend a favor and her have the guy. It's fine to be competitive, like at sports, games, work, school. But when you start competing just to say, "Huh, I want to see if I can take the guy my friend likes" that's cold.
What happens if you get him and he doesn't want your friend? Now she's heartbroken and mad at you for taking a guy she liked.

u Your friend is interested in a guy and you want to steal him from her just so you can win a "harmless competition." And you don't really want him, but you just want to use him as a play toy for your amusement. There are three possibilities:
1. You are a troll.
2. You are subhuman, lower than a snake's belly, and a waste of protoplasm.
3. You are a troll AND you are subhuman, lower than a snake's belly, and a waste of protoplasm.
Which is it?
YES. You are not a nice person and you are clearly bitter and jealous of your friend. Grrr I hate jealous people. If you have these thoughts about her, stay away from her. Don't hang around her just to compete with her while she thinks she has a true friend. And no it's not 'friendly' competition, you are jealous and want to prove something to yourself.
I hope she finds your nefarious internet activity and leaves you because she (assuming she's a good friend) deserves much better than having a friend like you.
Leave the guy alone. Assuming he's a good guy, he also deserves better than just going after him for some ego boost. That is manipulation at its finest. Leave both of them and this 'friendship' alone. Stop messing with people and being sneaky.
You already know the right answer to this. At least you are aware of this stupidity but it’s too bad a part of you wants to indulge it and is hoping someone will tell you it’s okay.
I’m guessing you are at least 25. Still youngish but you are no teenager. It’s just sad and depressing to see grown women considering indulging these toxic impulses. It would like me posting a question “is it wrong for me to want to bang my gf’s best friend?” Of course it’s f*cking wrong. Just because the thought crossed it mind doesn’t mean I can’t use common sense and have the self control not to do something stupid. You don’t see men asking stupid questions on GAG asking for permission to indulge a behavior they are already know is a bad idea.

It is wrong. You don't like him but still want to see if you can get him to like you instead of your friend. What would you do if he ends up liking you? A true friend wouldn't act this way. Your friend deserves someone who will be an actual friend instead of you.

I'm not sure about wrong but it's plenty standard. Most women want a man that proves other women want him. The only difference is you're honest enough to admit it.
You did both of them wrong, by satisfying your own needs. You can do it elsewhere. You probably have low self-esteem tell your good friend to help you with it.
