I think it's worth asking HIM and not letting him off the hook with a "because i'm stupid" answer. What's lacking in the relationship that caused him to do that? It's good to know because if it IS something petty like "you didn't make muffins last week" then F it... better to find out now than later. If it was "you haven't had sex with me in three years" then it's still inexcusable, but that situation gets addressed much differently than the muffins, and going forward in life (with or without him) you have a better understanding of things.
