Honestly, I think, having preferences limit your ability to find someone who actually makes you happy. It really depends on the extremity of the preference. For example, I dated a couple of taller women that were blonde haired before I met my wife, and that was just fine. however, I did not limit myself to that subset. Family background, religious and political views, and dating history, seem like big factors for a lot of people.
