Does it annoy you when someone you're interested in is incapable of having a meaningful conversation?

I've been talking to someone, or at least trying to... but they are a horrible conversationalist, asking me what I'm up to every 10 minutes, one worded replies, closed ended replies! I'm trying to carry this conversation and I'm so tired! I think I may have to give up and accept that it's not meant to be 😭

Yea just some people do not connect well with others , why chemistry and connection is important , without chemistry and connection, you pretty much have nothing with each other. Just because we think someone looks attractive it doesn’t mean they are the right person for us. If you both have nothing really in common with each other , then you both will be bored with each other fast and realize it was just a waste of time. You are better off finding someone that has a lot more things in common with you , someone that likes to talk and communicate , that can carry a conversation with you , instead of someone that just gives one word answers. I like to socialize and talk especially with a girl that I am interested in , if I feel like I am the only one talking and trying to make conversation I will probably lose interest in her and think she is boring lol So finding someone that has a lot in common with yourself is the best way to go , someone that enjoys a lot of the same things you enjoy so you don’t get bored of each other.

Yes same thing here... i was talking and i was getting back short sentences to none, ti'll i said i had enough... These days the Normal convo's are gone, in these days are... get naked, lets talk dirty, sext, they get their "climax" and afther they go quiet, so i thought to myself... you know what fuck it! I'm done! I not like i marry them !!! 🤷‍♂️

I feel like this is a phase a lot of people, especially guys, go through. I remember not being able to carry on a conversation with a young lady that I really liked. It was almost like I was tongue-tied, and couldn't even talk about the basics of my workday and my family. I look back and feel rather embarrassed.

Yeah, I was interested in this one woman at my former job, and she seemed like she could converse with everybody else, but with me I was doing most of the talking.. I could tell she was interested, but we didn't have a lot of great conversations..

This has happened to me before, it's only normal to assume that if they were interested, they would put in more effort in the conversations, that's what I told myself cause it's only logical, but maybe they just suck at it, who knows

I used to suck at it too. I gotta be real. But then i just kept trying. Practice makes perfect. I also keep up with the news and other things so i never run out of things to talk about.

But it would be great if the other person at least tries to show interest lol.

And i always liked how the other people seemed to listen very intently. Conversation isn’t just talking its listening too.

In person too, or just over the phone? Lots of people, guys especially are just boring texters. I know I’m constantly losing girls’ interest because admittedly I’m pretty boring through text with someone I don’t know yet

You are wasting your time. I think he is not interested in you. If you want serious relationship then talk to the guys who are interested in you. It's upto you what do you want from life? Do you want to keep wasting your time writing answers on Gag and texting wrong guys or you want to create a meaningful relationship with the right guy?

Don't base your judgements on text messages. Text messages are not a real conversation and a poor substitute for human interaction. If the conversation is in person, then you have a problem

Not really, but only an inability to communicate will cause me to lose interest quickly. It is fine if she is a little shy, but the differences between shyness and conversational ineptitude are usually pretty easy to spot.

If you're asking good open ended questions they can not be answered with one word replies. That said it is frustrating and I get it. You also could be right about it not meant to be.

OMG yes. But here's the kicker... the moment I gave up on her and started talking to someone else she suddenly had so much to say but by that time my patience and interest had already moved forward

@Smashingdoozy sounds like you're trying to help them learn to communicate better, and I wouldn't totally give up, but maybe just have a 'real talk' about it and say what you're telling us: it's at a make or break point that you're not enjoying the communication and something needs to change.

maybe it's just text? would they maybe be better in person or on a phone call or video chat? text isn't for everyone.
