What does he want from me?

i was in a relationship with a guy for 4 mothns. at the beginning he told me that he was in an open relationship, a fact that i accepted. as our relationship progressed he ended things with his girlfriend ( imma call her maya in this story), which coincided with a period of decreased emotional availability on his part. despite this, i understood the circumstances and continued with the relationship. however three weeks ago, he abruptly broke up with me, confessing that he still had feelings for maya. i expressed my understanding of his situation. he kept on insisting on maintaining a frienship, emphasizing how he enjoys spending time together with me. i asked for time to consider the prosposition. today, three weeks after our breakup, we met up, and he revealed he got back together with maya. he shared that she was jealous of our plans on visiting a museum today. he explained that she has always been envious of our activities, as they dont really go on dates. during our conversation, he repeatedly mentioned how maya has been jealous of me during our entire relationship, and how she actually really would love to meet me. he mentioned there on the side note how he thinks its not a good idea fearing her jealousy would exacerbate. i find myself puzzeld about why he insists on keeping me in his life and i dont get why he was telling me of all people how insecure and jealous his maya is off me. i also think she played a big factor on our breakup. when he was telling me this all i didn't really show any reaction and told him that as he knows i didn't really care about her ever nor asked ever details about her.
