Why would my friend randomly mention her boyfriend knowing it will hurt me?

We had a usual casual convo and she brings "the boyfriend" up. I never seen him or know if she really has one atm. She has never done this all the years I've known her. And she knows I had feelings for her and has always been considerate about it.
