We need to distinguish here between secondary teachers and professors at the university level. Secondary teachers are definitely not allowed to date students at that level, even if the student is of legal age. Does it happen sometimes? Yeah, but it's rare.
At the university level, I think you'll find policies vary. When I was in grad school in the US, professors at my university were allowed to date graduate students (postgraduates in UK parlance) but not undergraduate students. Both male and female professors sometimes dated graduate students. At the university I attended in Europe, I didn't have any contact with my professors until it came time to do the (masters) dissertation, and I didn't get the impression that they were interested in dating students.

Well because it's unprofessional and that's how it should be in my opinion.
@BlissfullyCurSed: Well, yeah, that is of course exactly how it should be. But there are plenty of narcissists out there who love power differentials in a relationship.
it has happened, not too often but it does happen, legal or non-legal age, and while not as prevalent there have been a few female teachers that have been caught doinking underage males.
Our Jr High school is going through where a teacher was "accidentally" touching underage girls.
Now that it is more out in the open the poop is starting to hit the fan as what the school tried to hide, cover up and not follow the policy that they were supposed to follow.
Once the trial is done, and he will probably be convicted then the lawyers for the girls will start since the state has done a lot of the work for him proving that he committed those acts and the poop will really hit the fan.
Sure... My uncle, who was a math teacher in the high school, married his student after she graduated :D
It has been proven, yeah... they will. Even if they're like 3 weeks from being 18. Why? 🤷♀️

If I were a teacher, there is no way I would date a student of mine. It screams "abuse of power", and no one would listen to any explanation even if she was the one to ask for it and ready to admit it. As a man, I want nothing to do with the judicial system and the harmful stereotypes aimed against men, and dating someone who's lower than me in a formal hierarchy is a one-way ticket to this hell.
It depends.. Is this High school? or college? In either case, especially the first one, which is not only wrong its criminal, its hell no. There are severe moral and ethical concerns. If i were a college professor, i would only consider it if the person was NEVER in my class, never my student. Even then its still probably a hell no. If i were a high school teacher.. I would expect someone to shoot and kill me if i made that choice. Not only because of the age, The power dynamic, and the fact that she's simply not legal.
Some would, but the teacher / professor should check the laws and employment agreement. For example, in many states it is illegal for a teacher to date a high school student in their school or district even if the student is legally an adult. Many universities have a zero tolerance policy on dating students.
It happens. I've got two friends who dated professors at college. Neither was their tutor and they had no classes together so it wasn't ideal, but it wasn't going to cost anyone a job or qualification.
Not if that teacher had any sense, as he is n loco parentis (Legal term – "in the place of a parent") of that child even if that child is of legal age, dating that student would be crossing some serious lines.
They have! While I believe it to be unprofessional and a definite conflict of interest, I still have somewhat an open mind and perhaps reasonable doubt towards such relationship not being just a fling.
A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman. If a guy gets a chance He will be tempted. He may or may not give into that temptation.
When I taught a class there were a number of attractive girls in it (18-22 age range), but I made sure to keep my demeanor professional, no matter how much I may have been tempted to get their ankles behind their head.
They certainly should not date students they are grading or advising. The age of the student isn't material -- there's a conflict of interest.
Yes. My dance teacher dated few girls In our class. He was 24 or 25 and they were 17 or 18.
ehmm he is a predator ehmmm🤯🤯
@BlissfullyCurSed lol not really
It's happened before. Macron married a former teacher
It's been known to happen but lost ger fired if it's ever made known they're intimate with their students.
Not while in School. I know some graduates students hooked up with their teacher the night they graduated.
that is weird in my opinion but I don’t care what other people do
Teachers can get into trouble for it. It can be seen as taking advantage of their position
Yes, but he is a damn fool.
Yes, if they're lowlives.
Like a few, but that's not okay
Not if he wants to keep his job
