Why does my boyfriend feels he have to lie to me?

I don’t know if he’s a pathological liar or what. He tells the truth about things but then he lies about small things a lot. Like is he afraid of telling me the truth?

I don’t see the reason why he’s be lying so much about small things. So, I supposed that’s just how he navigates the world, saying whatever he thinks will be the best thing to say to get the result that he wants, whether or not what he says is true.


For me personally, I don’t like lying because not only is it wrong (in most situations), but once you do, you need to create more lies to cover up the previous lies, and then it becomes this big snowball of fake details that you need to keep track of or else you won’t be able to keep your stories straight.


It gives me so much more peace of mind to just be honest and stick to the truth.

If he’s specifically only lying to you, then he’s actively trying to control your perception of him. He wants you to see him in a particular way instead of being open and honest about everything. Perhaps he’s afraid of being vulnerable and authentic with you because he wants to leave a good impression, and he doesn’t think his authentic self would be enough to leave a good impression.

I don't want to condone his falsehoods, but let's be honest here -- 99% of guys, if they were dating one of the most beautiful and desirable women in the world would lie, too.

I'll put it another way. Let's say a guy is one of the best athletes in the nation at the collegiate level, and then he gets drafted and is playing alongside several future hall of famers.
And I don't think that comparison even comes close to being a very accurate analogy. And I'm not trying to blow smoke up your butt -- you're just a great catch, a lottery pick for a significant other.
Now, why does he lie a lot? Because he's scared to death of losing you. I would be, too.
