Advice about a shy guy I’m seeing?

So I’ve been hanging out with a shy guy. He is super sweet, we see each other a few times a week to meet at the gym. We do have plans to see each other outside the gym too.

I have dating experience but my past relationships are absolutely traumatic so I don’t use them for reference in terms of the present.

So my question is this: what should I expect from a shy guy?

He does open up a little, enjoys talking about common interests and some of his passions like traveling, art, sports, etc. he adores his family, loves helping me out by giving me tips and hanging out at the gym after class.

I compliment him and he blushes when I do. If I’m there randomly he does see me he will come and talk to me or help me set up equipment. The other night he saw me unintentionally and talked to me for over an hour.

We do text, a lot about gym techniques and getting to know each other stuff. I initiate text messages but he will carry the conversation.

So shy guys (and girls who date them), my question is this:

Should I continue to initiate text? I only asked because my friend told me to let him chase me but I’m unsure that would help if he’s shy.

Also what else should I be aware of about a shy guy?

Yeah don't listen to that friend, making a guy chase you can only make it seem like you're not interested. Make him second guess your feelings towards him

Keep it balanced. Don't be the only one initiating but don't only make him initiate, well I mean even then you CAN hit him up more cause it seems like he likes you and honestly when I, as a guy, get a message from a girl I like and she hit me up first, it makes me happy, like wow she cares and is thinking about me too.

Ad far as what to expect. I mean it's hard to say honestly. Everyone's different and maybe he's only shy for now and once y'all start dating or hanging out more he'll open up and wony be as shy. It seems you have a got situation. I suggest don't over think it. Whatever you're doing now, keep doing it.

especially since if you are the one initiating , and if you change that all of a sudden. There's a chance he'll definitely pick up on that and might think you're losing interest or talking to someone else

See that’s what I was thinking because I text him every couple of days, which I think is good? I don’t want to suffocate him or anything like that by texting him daily like I give him the space if he wants to talk he can initiate, but not too long.

I don’t want him to think I’m loosing interest because I like him too and I am also shy but evidently I’m less shy than he is (at the moment). Like you said, that could change though as he may become less shy as he opens up.
Im taking things slow but there’s a good thing going there.

I think you are perfectly fine with how things are going. You could even just ask him yourself if he would like to go on an actual date. He would probably be shocked but happy if you just ask him yourself. I'm betting he is trying to build the courage himself. I'm definitely the shy guy myself and I dream of a girl like you that doesn't just ignore me understands it just takes a little time to open us up. You keep this up one day you may forget he is shy.

I know a lot about shy types -- I can be a bit skittish myself.

When it comes to initiating conversations, this shy character is like really bad at parties. They tend to stay in the corner, nibbling on some hay and trying to blend in with the background. The trick is to give them a gentle nudge, without being too aggressive, and encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings.

This shy one might come with their own unique set of conventions. You know, they might have a penchant for wearing khaki pants, and they'll salute Joe Biden like it's their job. But underneath that shy exterior, they have a heart of gold and a love of conformity.

I understand that! I’m a shy girl but I’m really putting myself out there here.

He really does have a heart of gold from what I know about him already.

He’s helping me (a complete newbie) with CrossFit and he loves talking about that stuff so he opens up a lot about that and others stuff too.

Funnily enough I must have did something right- he asked me to go out with him so I’ll be seeing him in a little while :)

The more he knows you are into him the more confident he will be. Try complimenting him more than you normally would but make sure they are genuine. If he is making you laugh let him know you love how he can make you laugh. If he has a shirt on you like let him know etc.

He probably has dating trauma or at least rejection trauma as well.
