Advice on shy guys?

There’s a guy in my class called Alex. He’s cute, shy, and not very talkative, but he acts differently around me compared to other girls. We’ve spoken a few times — first during lunch with a mutual, where he laughed at my jokes, looked away whenever I spoke to him, and kept smiling to himself. He barely talked to my girl friend at all.


Then in class, he randomly asked me what I got on my assignments, even though we weren’t already in a conversation. When I told him a friend did mine, he asked if I paid him, and when I joked that I’m “special,” he said ‘why are you special?’ I said ‘I’m just special to him’. he smiled, looked away and avoided eye contact again — in a shy, playful way.


During that interaction he moved a little closer, his body was turned toward me, and he kept looking at my eyes and lips. He wasn’t tense — more nervous and intrigued. He doesn’t initiate conversations like that with other girls in our class. He also made small talk with me more naturally than he normally does with anyone else.


Overall, he seems interested but shy. Any tips?

Our mutual friend told me Alex has said to him ‘you know that girl’ he said my name. Then Alex was like ‘oh she’s so rude’ our friend said ‘no she’s nice she just makes jokes’.

I told our mutual friend I like Alex and he said he’ll get info from him. Alex claimed he’s not interested because I’m rude to our mutual. And that he doesn’t find my pretty.

My friends and I may think Alex is lying but not sure. He did laugh at a joke a made today. So I’m not sure why he’s saying I’m rude.
