Boyfriend said he wants to split up becuase I didn’t put distance between me and a male friend?

I have a male friend at work. He sometimes calls me after work about unrelated topics. My boyfriend didn’t like this and asked me if I could distance myself a little.

I recently put up a post on Facebook which my male friend made a love heart reaction to. My boyfriend saw this and thinks I haven’t distanced myself at all.

He’s not happy and talking about whether this relationship is worth it for him whilst I’m speaking to other guys. What should I do?

At the end of the day he’s giving you an ultimatum: him or your friend.


Personally I’m not cutting ties with any friend who came before my partner unless it’s on my terms, mainly because if you cut that friend off for your boyfriend when they did nothing wrong you’d feel nothing but guilt. On top of that, real love is not giving your partner ultimatums, it’s trusting them to be loyal partners and knowing them well enough not to be so insecure about their relationships outside of ours.


If I were you, I’d be completely offended by my boyfriend for calling me a liar and basically doubling down on the idea that more is going on between you and your friend than you say. Don’t run your friendship for a man with trust issues, because I promise it doesn’t stop here with this one friend.
