Why don’t people on dating apps reply to messages?

I send a message saying hello and it takes ages for guys to reply. They usually never reply.

If your message says "hello," and nothing more, most guys will assume that you have sent the same message to at least a hundred other guys and it has no meaning at all. If you actually read their profile and then send a message that clearly shows that you read it, you are more likely to get a reply. E. g., "Hey, I read that you are a classic rock fan. Me, too! The last concert I attended was REO Speedwagon and they were awesome!"

As @OlderAndWiser pointed out, a generic message is far less likely to garner a response. If you instead add something that at least refers to something in his profile ("I enjoy surfing, too." for example) he will know that you put in the effort to read his profile and were not just cutting and pasting a message.

Ugh, dating apps can be a ghost town sometimes! There's a bunch of reasons why people might not reply. Maybe they're just not that interested, super busy, or already chatting with a bunch of people. It could also be your opening message - if it's generic or boring, it might get lost in the shuffle. Don't take it personally, just keep swiping and spark up conversations that feel interesting!

I don’t use them but if anyone simply sends me a Hello on anything, it gets deleted / sent to the bin.
