Is dating ur best friend's ex wrong?

y'all I need help!

So when we were in high-school (like 3 years ago) my best friend showed me a pic of a guy and told me he kissed her

I don't remember much but I know he was one of her ex's

When we got in to college he was there and 1 year senior she showed me and I used to tell her that he is cute and all

Freshmen year there was a memorial program for her father and him and his friends were there I saw him there

We also saw eachother at campus but we never talk

Then like a week ago he texted me on ig and tells me he look familiar I told him maybe it's from campus and I ignore him then he text me again he mentioned my friend's name and ask me if I'm her Friend I told him yes

and he says that he knows me well that he noticed me in the memorial and at campus

Then we kept talking but it felt so weird flirting with him and I was scared to tell my friend (she is now abroad)

So I asked him if they were together he tells me that they know each other since they were a kid but they weren't together they tried but it didn't go well so they stopped

But it is still weird for me to date him so what do you think I should do?

Ps: she is now in a long term relationship and doesn't have any feeling for this guy
