Well, the excitement from the beginning usually doesn't last. Your serotonin levels go down to normal and in combination with dopamine, makes us feel calm, happy and safe around our partner - which many people confuse with falling out of love, unfortunately, because there's no more butterflies. But it's growing with the other person, trust and humour that keeps the relationship alive. Staying attentive, showing interest in the other person although you already know them for so long. If you're with your best friend, it's usually a great ride in the long run.
